Two Months Until Departure: What’s Left?

by Eli on August 6, 2010

October 5th is our official leaving date, and we have now less than two months to go. We’ve got our train and plane tickets, our backpacks, and an idea of where our travel budget should be. Now we’re taking a look at all the odds and ends that need to be taken care of over the next two months.

Our Checklist For The Next Two Months

  • Travel Vaccinations. We need to get these done soon. Vaccinations we’ll need to get include Hepatitis A & B, Typhoid, Japanese encephalitis, and apparently, rabies. Also recommended for the areas we are visiting are malaria pills. Yummy.
  • Travel Insurance. Browsing around looking at plans, it looks like insurance will run around $400 USD. I’m still not sure of the best way to go with travel insurance, so I plan on digging around the web for some more info before we proceed with buying something.
  • Supplies. We have our packs, cameras and laptops. We’re going to need first aid kits, mosquito nets, toiletries, good, breathable clothes, and quite possibly some other things that I can’t think of.
  • Money! In the last month I have fallen behind in my savings, so the next two months will involve a lot of cutbacks on the spending, working extra hours and saving as much money as possible. Gotta try really hard to stay away from the movie theater and the bookstore. This one ain’t easy.
  • Contact information. This includes writing down phone numbers and addresses for our family members, as well as embassies and airports in case something happens to our laptops. It’s good to have a written down version of important information somewhere.

So here’s my question to you: What are your recommendations for us at this phase? What kind of travel insurance should we be looking at? Is there anything of vital importance we should be bringing in our packs?

How do you deal with the last two months before traveling?
