The Sweetgrass Grill In Tarrytown, NY

If you’re ever travelling around the New York City area, and decide you want a little small town “escape,” take a train ride north to Tarrytown. It’s less than an hour trip to this small little village set next the Hudson River and Sleepy Hollow(made famous by the headless horseman story). If you do make it to Tarrytown, stop into the Sweetgrass Grill, right off Main St., across from the music hall.

You’ll be greeted by warm smiles and friendly staff as you walk in, and the green walls small bar offer an inviting feeling. Owners Theresa and David have made the Sweetgrass feel like home from the minute you open the door. Take a look at the menu, and you’ll see an eclectic selection of entrees and appetizers that go hand-in-hand with an amazing selection of micro-brewed beers from all over the Northeast Region.

For a backpacker’s budget, the Sweetgrass Grill can run you a little on the high side, but if you can splurge it will be well worth it for you. With fare ranging from seared scallops to Prince Edward Island mussels, Colorado lamb shank and grass-fed beef, there is something on the menu that will knock you out. Chef Tommy Lasley has created some real magic here.

Papa's Sweet Grass Sliders. Mmm, delicious.

If you’re looking to be a bit more frugal, Sweetgrass is also a great place to just drop in and have a few beers. Captain Lawrence Pale Ale is out of Pleasantville, NY, and the Brooklyn Pilsner is, you guessed it, bottled in Brooklyn. You are able to get a rare chance to try some of the region’s best home-brewed concoctions, and the bartenders here are quirky and fun. If the mixed drink is more your thing, have a taste of the Sweet Pea Mojito or Aztec Martini.

One thing is certain: there is something here for everybody. So come to Tarrytown, and partake in the fun at the Sweetgrass Grill. You can chat it up with the staff over a beer, meet a local, or sit outside in the sidewalk cafe and watch the people strolling up and down Main Street.

If you want big city flavor in a small town setting, you know where to go.
