Welcome to the Living In Transit Weekend Update. Here you will read about what we’ve been doing in the past week, view our Dirty Dozen Weekly Photos, and get some links to the best travel-related stuff on the web. Hope you enjoy!
What We’ve Been Up To
Last week we took a two day trip to Washington, DC by bus from Penn Station in NYC. We had a great time touring the capital and we also got our first hostel experience. It was hot as hell, and we could really feel the summer getting started.
The high point of the week came yesterday, when my Passport finally arrived in the mail. We immediately went online and book our tickets, giving us an official start date for the trip!
We’ll be flying to Bangkok on October 26th, after a three week coast-to-coast train ride from New York to California! We’ll be stopping and spending a week in Chicago and Denver. We’ll spend another week in California before flying out of San Francisco.

Best Of The Web:
We didn’t get as much time to surf the web this week as we usually do, however we did happen to find some pretty cool stuff out there as always. Check out these other travel bloggers, you’ll be glad you did!
- No Debt World Travel wrote a great article asking the questiong: Why do travel bloggers blog? It’s an awesome read and there is sure to be some great discussion about it.
- Johnny Vagabond just celebrated his blog’s six month birthday.
- Nomadic Chick and her weekly feature Gypsy Wednesday have been really fun to follow. Check out her interview with Robin Esrock.
- Almost Fearless posted a video by RSA Animate about the secret powers of time. RSA animate makes great videos of whiteboard animations set to audio files of great discussions.
Coming Up Next Week
In the coming weeks you can expect to see more updates about our trip, route, and preparations. It’s getting time to take care of immunizations and finding our backpacks. As always we’ll be taking all of the lessons we learn on the preparation phase and writing about them.
We’re also working extra hard at our jobs to save as much money as we can. This means our trips during the next few weeks will be to nearer destinations. We’ll be spending alot of time exploring upstate New York, particularly Westchester County which is know as NYC’s backyard. There are lots of great little river towns in the area and we’ll be trying to find the best places to see.
We leave New York exactly four months from today.
